Simpsons Boat Builder - Narrowboats

Simpsons Boat Builders

Environmentally Friendly

Simpsons take issues regarding the environment extremely seriously. This is why Simpsons make every effort to reduce their carbon footprint and eagerly follow the development of alternative fuels and power.

Reducing the Carbon Footprint

The majority of the materials (including the steel) used in the making of a Simpsons boat are sourced from the UK. Therefore, you can rest in the knowledge that the purchase of your boat does not involve air-miles, which can add significantly to the carbon footprint.

The carbon footprint of a Simpsons boat (including the energy used within the build) is roughly equivalent to ‘one’ tree. Therefore, when a Simpsons boat sold, a sapling will be given to the boat owner. This can be planted by the owner or planted by a representative from Simpsons Boats at a previously agreed sustainable location.

Building materials

Like you, Simpsons are concerned about the Earth’s natural resources and try to use recycled materials and timber from sustainable sources wherever possible. If you have specific requests to use particular recycled materials, we will be happy to talk through your ideas and incorporate them into your design.

Composting toilets

We are pleased that an increasing number of our customers are choosing to install Envirolet composting toilets from Sancor Industries. These toilets are easier, cleaner and more environmentally-friendly than any other option currently on the market.

Alternative Energy

Simpsons are innovators in using alternative energy on our boats. Simpsons are proud to be building one of the first electric powered narrow boats in partnership with Fischer Panda and Hawkesley Silicon. This is eagerly awaited project is expected to be finished and launched in early 2008.

Many of our customers have requested a number of alternative power options such as, solar power, wind generation, full electric or hybrid propulsion systems. In all of these cases, we have accommodated these requests and incorporated them into the customers’ specification.
